Asking students to deconstruct the elements of a book or movie is worthwhile endeavor. Add this resource to your lesson plan the next time you watch a movie or read a novel. I’ve used this story elements worksheet in conjunction with movie guides in the past and stapled it right onto the back of a movie guide. Throughout the movie I asked students to be thinking about the setting, problem, rising action, climax, conclusion and the theme of the story. After using this story elements worksheet along with the Zootopia Movie Guide, I noticed that my students’ understanding of story elements had become more sophisticated and it showed in the way they crafted their next fictional writing assignment.
