This Trolls Movie Guide | Questions | Worksheet (PG – 2016) challenges students to analyze the decisions that Poppy, Branch and other characters make throughout the movie. Ask students to identify different looking trolls and describe how the other trolls treat them despite their differences. Explore the meaning of happiness and what mistake the Bergens made in trying to achieve it. Take full advantage of the learning opportunities in this musical, whimsical and inspiring film.

• An answer key (4 pages) is included, however, some answers will vary as students are encouraged to construct their own meaning throughout the film and many questions are open-ended.

  • CCSS Note: I’ve taken the liberty of aligning certain reading standards with the act of consuming content via the movie instead. Although students aren’t reading they are asked to perform the same cognitive functions on the content that they consumed from the movie.

Distance Learning Tips:

1. Distribute the digital PDF file or the google forms version to each student
2. Use the screen sharing tool on your group call software to play the movie
3. Pause the movie at each question to give students time to write/discuss

The digital version is for a paperless classroom if your students each have a tablet/iPad. Here is a method that worked for me:

• Ask students to download a PDF editor app if they don’t already have one. It needs to have a save function as well. I used Foxit PDF.
• Host the file. I used google drive to share a folder with the students.
• After students have completed the movie guide, ask them to save it in a designated google drive folder using a naming convention. (I use LastnameFirstnameMovieGuide.pdf)
